The Department of Remote Sensing and Nanophotonics is one of the departments affiliated with the Laser and Photonics Research Center at Al-Hamdaniya University. It serves as a launching platform for numerous scientific research projects and applied studies, in addition to the implementation of projects at both local and international levels. The department was established in 2019 in response to the significant scientific and technological advancements witnessed globally in recent years across various fields and disciplines, in accordance with the official directive of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Research and Development Directorate, Ref. No. (BT 8/7030), dated (21/7/2019).
The department addresses two major domains. The first focuses on remote sensing and its close relationship with other sciences, such as space science, geology, climatology, environmental studies, geographic information systems (GIS), water resources, and related fields. The second domain is concerned with light–matter interaction at the nanoscale, where applications of nanophotonics extend to physics, optical communications, as well as biological and medical applications, among others.
The Department of Remote Sensing and Nanophotonics aims to advance scientific research, which is regarded as a fundamental driver of the progress of nations and societies at all levels, particularly academic studies and research that address societal challenges and obstacles and seek appropriate solutions. Furthermore, the department places strong emphasis on applied and engineering research through conducting studies related to microwave waves and their analysis using modern techniques, advanced software, and available instrumentation, as well as additional resources to be provided to the department. This approach is intended to keep pace with scientific and academic development and to promote the publication of academic research in internationally indexed and reputable journals.
